EVALUATION / INCOMPLETE PRESENTATION
How do the deliverables meet the brief set out in the initial proposal?
In my project the final deliverables were planned to be an Advert Animation, Package Design, Tube Adverts and a social media campaign; but half way through the project when I thought I had two months to complete the deliverables I was informed that I had only two weeks, instead due to a deadline change. So our deliverables changed and I had to adapt. We were told to cut out a majority of the details by shortening our main deliverables and discarding most of the smaller deliverables. My new deliverables were to make a 20 second frame by frame digital animation and a poster design along with a brand design. I made sure to keep my work legal and ethically safe so that it can be used on my portfolio and other places, I didn’t end up designing an audio script for my animation because I didn’t have time any more. I couldn’t ethically and legally create an appropriate audio. All imagery was entirely mine and inspired by multiple sources so I haven't copied any work directly either (it's all original). My audience appeal is very good as throughout the whole project I had been asking my target audience for feedback to improve constantly and to make it good for them. They all gave positive feedback and constructive criticism that tailored it to them and helped me overall with my art work. Visually I did not meet my own brief because I had planned to create a visually aesthetically pleasing animation with very detailed scenes with the feature of paint strokes. In the end I had to use simple black and white colours and a marker pen brush due to time constraints I have mentioned previously. Overall if I was on the normal schedule when making these deliverables I’m confident that I would have achieved all my deliverables in detail.
Professionalism
In my project I have only been a perfectionist when it came to the brand design, probably because it is the easiest part of the project, for me, as I am very familiar with brand design. The rest of the project I didn’t put as much effort into, as the animation had to be rushed and I didn’t ask my audience about the scene design and movements- I only asked about the character designs like the faces etc. In my project I couldn’t add extra deliverables because I had the time constraints given to me half way through the project, and I had to focus on creating my main deliverables. My main deliverables look easy to make because they were. My animation was only made in a week so that I could then focus on the writing involved in the project. There are moments in my animation where there is fluid movement, but a lot of the scenes were rushed. Originally I had done multiple tutorials for multiple software to learn which one on the computer to use. I ended up using my ipad with procreate because that was what i was most familiar with animating on. I believe my animation is not presented as a professional final animation. The animation looks half- way done as in the visual aspects because it is only black and white. My brand design was very professional, I know this because people I talked to and showed my work to had mentioned what they liked in detail and also said it was very professional. Throughout making the brand design I was constantly asking my aducience what they preferred in the design, they actually chose the final design that was used and the placement of the logo on the box.
Issues & Problem Solving
Previously I have mentioned the issues I had to overcome in my project and there were many which affected my overall deliverables. The main issue was my time constraints that I had to work around. I would definitely have done my project the way I’d originally planned if i hadn’t had to deal with these changes. My animation does not look as I had planned it at all, the visuals and art style were dumbed down a lot and there were only two colours in the end.
Successes
One of the three things that I really like about my project was my brand design, the second is the colour palette for the brand design and the third thing is that I used the mock up of the box in the animation itself, in one of my scenes, which created somewhat a mixed media animation. Overall I would have done everything differently, apart from my brand design had I had more time.
Progress and Learning
Throughout my project I have been constantly learning about the different topics and technical skills that come with animation. For example I have followed many tutorials on different softwares to find the best one to use, but I didn’t end up using the softwares that I researched due to deadline changes meaning I ended up using what I was used to animating on. In the future I will use what I've learnt to further my animation skills in these softwares. When it comes to project management, I mainly used the skills that I have already learnt in my last projects at the brit, these skills are time management, making sure that I get the written work done as well as the practical work in time for deadlines and keeping up to date with my teachers and making a gantt chart. In this project I have also been constantly updating my target audience on what designs I have been making and getting them to choose so that it can fit them best. Overall in my project if I had more time/the time I thought I had then I would have definitely made my animation in one of the softwares that I researched into, my animation would also have been 40 seconds long. I would have put my poster brand design into a tube advert mockup and I would have made a social media campaign to advertise the theoretical brand I have designed.
end
This evaluation was supposed to be a presentation in the format of an edited video with a voice over from me, due to the deadline change I had to just get the writing done and complete the website. If I had more time I would have defiantly made this a video like I did with the pitch from the beginning of the project
